Black Currant (ribes sp)
12-16" rooted cuttings
The only shrub we grow out in our meadows that we don’t protect from deer. The fruit is great for jams and juice. Funky, tart, complex and full of fruit annually with little to no care.
These are compact shrubs, maxing out around 3-5' tall and wide. This makes them a great choice for folks with less space. They can tolerate some shade - researchers from the University of Missouri found that in trials, currant production didn't start to decline until 80% shade!
